What Every Light Pattern Means — and How to Respond

Your Alarm.com Doorbell Camera uses LED light patterns to communicate its status. Whether it’s starting up, charging, reconnecting, or signaling an issue, this page will help you quickly understand what the flashing lights mean — and what to do next.

Normal Operation Lights

LED Color Flash Pattern What It Means What To Do
Green Solid Camera is connected and working normally No action needed — system is good
White Solid Call mode active (someone pressed the doorbell) You’re in a live call or it just rang
Yellow Solid Doorbell is starting up Wait 1–2 minutes while it boots
Blue/Green Alternating Flash Wi-Fi connected, waiting on server response Wait for full connection — it should turn green soon
Blue/Yellow Alternating Flash Firmware is updating Do not power off — wait for update to complete
Red/Blue Alternating Flash Entering troubleshooting mode Only appears if you’ve initiated a reset

Troubleshooting with LED Patterns

The LED also helps guide you through manual resets and troubleshooting actions. These happen when you press and hold the doorbell button for a specific amount of time.

Power Cycle (Soft Reboot)

  • Blue flashing after ~70 seconds of holding
  • Releases to reboot the camera

Factory Reset

  • Yellow flashing after ~80 seconds
  • Releases to erase all settings and Wi-Fi info
  • Use only when reinstalling or starting fresh

Enter Wi-Fi Access Point Mode

  • Red/Green alternating flash after ~60 seconds
  • Releases to allow app-based reconfiguration
  • Use when reconnecting to a new Wi-Fi network

Battery Charging

After installation or a restart, the internal battery may charge for about 30 minutes. During this time:

  • The LED may alternate between colors like Blue, Yellow, or Green
  • Do not unplug or remove the device while charging
