If you’ve recently replaced your router or changed your Wi-Fi settings, your Alarm.com camera may appear offline. This guide walks you through three easy methods to reconnect your indoor camera to Wi-Fi.
Method 1: Reconnect Using the WPS Button (Most Common)
What You Need:
- Access to your router and its WPS button
- Access to your camera’s WPS button
Steps:
- Press and hold the WPS button on the camera for 2–3 seconds until the LED flashes
- Press the WPS button on the router (look for the lock icon or two arrows in a circle)
- Wait 2–3 minutes for the camera to connect. Watch the LED for color changes:
- Solid Green: Success – the camera is online
- Flashing Green: Connected to router but not the internet
- Solid Red: Not connected — camera may be too far from router
If It’s Not Working:
- Power off the camera and try again
- Power cycle your router if the LED stays flashing green
Method 2: Reconnect Using an Ethernet Cable (Wired Setup)
This is the most reliable method if WPS doesn’t work.
What You Need:
- Ethernet cable
- Computer or phone with access to the Alarm.com website
Steps:
- Power off the camera
- Connect the camera to your router with the Ethernet cable
- Power the camera back on
- Once the LED turns solid green, log into the Alarm.com Customer Website
- Go to:
- Video > Settings > Choose your camera > Wireless Network > Scan
- Select your network, enter your Wi-Fi password, and click Continue
- Power cycle the camera again — it should now stay solid green
If the LED flashes red/green, your password may be incorrect. Repeat setup.
Method 3: Reconnect Using Access Point (AP) Mode
This advanced method works if the other two methods don’t.
Steps:
- Hold the WPS button until LED flashes blue then white, then release
- On your phone/laptop, connect to the temporary ALARM_XX:XX:XX Wi-Fi network
- Open your browser and go to:
- http://V721install or http://521irinstall
- If that fails, go to: http://192.168.1.1
- Click Scan to see available Wi-Fi networks
- Select your network and enter your Wi-Fi password
- Click OK — once the LED is solid green, you’re reconnected
- Open the Alarm.com app or website to confirm live video
If the LED doesn’t stay solid green, repeat the steps.
How to Know It’s Working
| LED Pattern | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Solid Green | Fully connected to internet |
| Flashing Green | Partial connection – router only |
| Solid Red | Connection failed – check signal or repeat setup |
| Flashing Red/Green | Password error – re-enter Wi-Fi password |
Pro Tips
- Keep your Wi-Fi signal strong — use a mesh extender if needed
- Double-check your Wi-Fi password before entering
- Ensure your device is within range of the router
- Don’t rush: allow 1–2 minutes between each step for reconnection to complete
